Many a whiskey stands for times long past with its entire form. Namely when it has survived the distillery from which it comes and keeps the memory alive, even though the distillery has already gone down in the history of Scottish whiskey tradition. 25-year-old Little Mill is one such case. The distillery, which was part of the Lowlands whiskey region, was shut down in 1992. And to make fate perfect, large parts of the closed, but still intact facility burned down in 2004.
The Littlemill 25 years is actually a true rarity that should make many a collector’s heart beat faster. In the “Private Cellar Edition”, master blenders John Peterson and Michael Henry tasted the last qualities of the distillery from 1989 and 1990 and turned them into a special whiskey. They selected ten casks that they felt were particularly characteristic of the Little Mill distillery. The whiskey was then stored in American and European oak, after which the whiskey received its finish in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks. The original whiskey was distilled on December 17, 1989 at 68.5 percent ABV and between April 1 and 4, 1990 at 68.6 to 68.7 percent ABV.
The edition is limited to 1,500 bottles, of which just 45 are available for the German market. The whiskey is delivered in a very high-quality wooden box that can be opened. In addition to the whisky, it contains a piece of the cask in which the whiskey was stored and a sample of the whiskey with a capacity of 0.05 litres. This way you can get an impression of the taste of the Little Mill 25 years old without having to open this rare bottle right away.
